Towering at 8 feet 5 inches, Leonid Stadnyk looms over all around him. While he weighs 400 pounds, he is by no means obese either. You would think a man who is so large must have started out that way as well. But for Leonid Stadnyk that was not the case.
Born and raised in the Ukraine, he was no different from any of the other boys in village. But at the age of 12 he underwent brain surgery. All seemed fine until people started noticing rapid amounts of growth in the young boy. Apparently his pituitary gland had grown a tumour causing it to produce excessive amount of growth hormone.
Leonid Stadnyk has since ceased growing due to the tumour’s disappearance and he now leads a ‘normal’, healthy life. Although he is the tallest person in the world, his stubborn refusal to be measured by the Guinness Book of World Records means it will never be official.
