What is a pomsky?
If you’re looking for a new breed of cute dogs to love on, let me introduce you to the The Pomeranian Husky. It’s also called Hybrid or “designer” dog. What comes out from mixing these two breeds is called Husky Pomeranian Mix or “Pomsky”.
Pomeranian + Husky = Pomsky
While a mix between the genetic codes of the wolf-like Husky and the fluffy Pomeranian, different traits take a dominance.
The Pomsky keeps the smaller size of the Pomeranian, keeping it a cute, indoor dog size throughout its life. The pronounced curl of the Pomeranian’s tail and the slight curl of the Husky’s join together for an adorably upturned end. This, combined with the thick coats that both breeds naturally have, creates a little, curly tailed fluff ball of love.
Breeders create these new “Designer” breeds by mating pure breeds from each side and we’re a little annoyed that it took them so long to come up with this delightful combination. Who doesn’t want a Husky that looks more like a stuffed animal and stays forever small?
Now, before you all rush to buy your own little Pomsky, there are some things to know. Being a relatively new hybrid (and an adorable one) there is quite a waiting list to get one. You most likely won’t find one at a shelter though there are plenty of other lovable dogs there that need a home. But if you’re set on a Pomsky puppie then you need to be ready to hand over anywhere between $1000 and $2200.
All dog breeds have their own personalities and idiosyncrasies, so when you combine two together you’re never quite sure which breeds personality will shine through as it varies from puppy to puppy. Also, you’re not sure what size the puppy will lean to. Though it won’t ever get as big as a Husky, the Pomsky can range from a small to medium sized dog.
With all these different issues and variables, it’s best to do research about both the Husky and the Pomeranian to get a better idea of what you may be getting.
The two breeds
The Husky was originally bread to be a sled dog, so it falls under the class of working dogs. They are often stubborn and strong-willed and will regard themselves as the alpha dog if you do not show dominance. They have a lot of energy and curiosity and if there is little to do, they often get themselves into trouble. Plenty of exercise helps prevent this. Despite their tendency to be mischievous, they are very loyal and loving and get along well with nearly everyone.
Pomeranians on the other hand are also very lively and energetic dogs. They also are strong-willed and quite clever. Being a smaller dog, the Pomeranian makes up for its size with its attitude and will quickly take over a house if not kept in check. Consistent exercise helps iron out a lot of the Pomeranian’s more excitable tendencies. While not the best dog for children, a Pomeranian makes a wonderful friend for older people.
Being a combination of the two, the Pomsky’s traits are strongly related to parentage. By learning about the parents, you will be able to understand your puppy better. Because the Pomeranians are known for their barking and Huskys bark very little, it would make sense for the Pomsky to fall somewhere in the middle. The Pomsky most likely will have a lot of personality and energy. Taking them out for regular exercise will help to keep the dog happy and better behaved. It is unlikely that the Pomsky will inherit “bad” traits from either breed and their behavior as an adult dog will have much more to do with how you raised them as a puppy.
It’s important to keep a strong hand on them while raising them and to keep them well socialized so they know how to behave around people. Though not necessarily a good family dog, the Pomsky is wonderful company for adults.
Mya the Pomsky
All dogs are special in their own unique way, but sometimes there’s that one that takes your breath away. I found mine in the compilation below, see if you can find yours.
Mya became famous after a picture of her appeared on Reddit and users instantly fell in love with her bright blue eyes and her fox-like appearance. Mya lives with her owner Dave Lasio in South Florida, when she’s not traveling around the various states of America.
You may think that this beautiful creature is a fox, a fire-type Pokémon or the fox from the Mozilla Firefox icon.

This cross between a Pomeranian and Siberian-Husky is about as cute as you can get.
Some of the Pomskies are like Pomeranian dogs who are not very good at playing with young children
Because of their double coat that needs extra care, they need to be brushed more than just one time every week.
