In the United States, Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May. In some countries it was changed to dates that were significant to historical dates.

Mother’s Day is a holiday commemorated each year as a tribute to all mothers and motherhood. It is celebrated on different dates in many parts of the world. Although the origins of this holiday date back to the times of the ancient Greeks and Romans, the modern-day form of the event of started in the early 20th century in the United States.

It was very first celebrated in 1908 in Grafton, West Virginia, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mom Ann Reeves Jarvis who, in turn, lots of years previously had established Mothers’ Day Work Clubs in five cities. Anna Jarvis started a campaign to make the Mothers Day a legal holiday and she succeeded in 1914 when the United States President Woodrow Wilson announced the 2nd Sunday in May a Mother’s Day.
